I first heard about the Meek family from Laurence. He’s a fan of their adventuring blog.
Then, they kept popping up all over the place talking about their year of roadschooling or their “EdVenture”.
Since we’ve decided to home educate and since wanting our children to be outdoors as much as possible plays a significant part in that, my interest in their journey was peaked.
So, when I heard that Frances Lincoln was publishing the Meek’s book, 100 Family Adventures, I was excited about reviewing it.
Tim, Kerry, Amy and Ella Meek’s book is beautifully printed and perfectly at home on a coffee table – the coffee table of someone desperate to get their kids outdoors.
It’s packed with ideas that range in difficulty, from cleaning up a local park to going on a night hike to sub zero camping to puffin spotting. There are intriguing ideas here – 100 of them in one place to keep you busy for years to come.
Having had a look, through, I think many of the challenges will suit our family better when our children get a bit older. At three and one, ours aren’t read for stand-up paddleboarding just yet! But there’s lots to get started on even now.
Talitha loves browsing 100 Family Adventures. I think she’s getting inspired.

Fresh air keeps my family healthy and we all sleep better too !
fresh air great to be out in as much as possible
Because I don’t think we’re going to look back and remember all the TV we watched and video games we played, but the experiences we had and most of the good ones involve getting outside.
What is getting outdoors important to you?………… the sights, the sounds, the fresh air, the peace and quiet
Nice for all the family to get some fresh air and explore surroundings
Fresh air & muddy puddles are what childhoods should be made of!
Because everyone needs a breath of fresh air from time to time. We try and get outside every day, it makes such a difference!
Fresh air, sunshine, nature :- such as animals, trees, plants, sea-side etc.
I think being outside opens up a whole new world to little ones in particular. There’s so much to explore and discover and you can do things you just couldn’t do at home. Plus, Amy simple needs her daily outdoor time to let off some energy x

I think it is important to get outside, its just healthier than sitting in all day.
important to get out and get your vitamin D, especially when we have the grand-kids here
It’s important so that the kids don’t turn into ones who think that console games etc are the only thing they can do. They have a better respect for the environment and what goes on outside their “normal” bubble. Learn a lot from going outside and it is much healthier than sat about inside all the time.
i think fresh air lifts your spirits x
fresh air is healthy and invigorating
To get a bit of fresh air and a change of scenery π
freedom and fresh air lovely xx
Gets the little one away from the television and into a whole world of imagination
Healthy fresh air
fresh air and family bonding time
getting out and about allows us to spend time as a family and keep healthier too
I grew up in Australia, so being outdoors is not only what Im used to, I just know how healthy it is, especially to get some Vitamin D into our bodies and promotes healthy and active lifestyle!
The air and exercise are good for the kids and help them sleep. They learn so much because they are stimulated and we all need a bit of sunshine.
Getting in the garden again and making it nice
Massively – nothing beats fresh air!
I love being out in the fresh air and looking at nature all around us
for health benefits all round
My kids do some of their best learning outside
Fresh air is important and there is so much to discover outside.

Fresh air, the son, or rain on your face and being at one
helps the kids to sleep after getting fresh air
A chance to get fresh air and exercise, see nature in action, get some quality time away from screens and the chance to use our imaginations. It’s great, whatever the weather.
breathing in the sea air
the sense of peace and calm it brings (and fun!)
If we don’t get outside for at least a bit, our moods tend to suffer.
Fresh air and feeling the sun on our skin.
It makes a real difference to my mood to get out and about. I can start to suffer with cabin fever otherwise!
It’s more fun than being inside and makes you feel alive.
Outside play is my favourite part of better weather, the kids are happier, they get dirty, they have fun and they sleep better!
Getting outdoors is really important to us and something we love to do as a family – this book looks amazing, fingers and toes crossed

Because children learn and gain so much by being outdoors. Fresh air and laughter are 2 of the best medicines and being the fact we normally end up with laughter when we are outside its the best of both worlds
Enjoying the countryside and getting away from the day to day struggles life brings.
Defimately freah air and those times when im out in it with my family are those i cherish the most. Time to bond and use our imaginations! Roll on summer : )
Because our bodies and brains were designed to climb, jump, look about and enjoy our natural surroundings! What’s not to like!
Because children spend so much time using electronic devices they need to get outside and experience the real world first hand.
Fresh air keeps my family healthy and knocks the boys out at night too!
Fresh air and exercise helps to keep us happy and healthy!
Nice change of scenery, otherwise I would just be sat in an office all day
Burns off excess energy and always improves moods all round
I work in a metal tube so to be out in the air makes me feel free after work!
it’s good to have the balance and plenty of exercise π
I grew up playing every sport imaginable. We’d even make believe that we were horses doing show jumping! But in addition that, my mum grew organic fruit and veg. It was after helping her on one of her allotments that I discovered a wonderful tennis club that I became a member of. I’d basically live there every summer, come rain or shine.
These days, I like to walk and photograph. But I’ve also bitten the bullet on growing my own organic veg. After 30-some years of telling my mum it was cool that se grew great tasty food but I’d never be any kind of gardener, I’ve finally started growing my own herbs, tomatoes, leeks, and courgettes. She made a gardener out of me in the end!
When I asked to her help with that, I know she’d quite rightly have an “I told you so” smile on her face.
Fresh air, exercise and freedom to run wild!
Fresh air. beautiful scenery, peace and quiet and tranquility. being out and about is a beautiful thing which can refresh you and clear your head. Giving you chance to take stock of life and relax all whilst seeing the beauty of Mother Nature. Hiking in the hills, camping under the stars and getting some exercise, being outdoors is always worth it.
I suffer with low vitamin D so it’s very important to my health to get outside often.
Fresh air, sunshine, wild flowers, trees, countryside – need I say more
I love nature and it makes me smile and feel happy
Fresh air, the colour and wonderful aromas of flowers, bright blue skies, wispy clouds …
Because there is so much colour, adventure, and surprises outdoors, you can go to the park for free and see lots of fantastix things you didn’t expect to see! It is more exciting than watching tv because it is real life, such as watching ducklings bouncing around catching flies on the local lake!
Mad running
Bring out in the open makes everyone feel better
I have sinus problems so I love to be out in the fresh air
Fresh Air! π

Fresh air and being close to nature is great
Fresh air and getting the children away from their computers
The outdoors creates a whole ne world for the family to learn, bond, share and have fun.
Today we went over our local heath (where I spent hours & hours as a boy). We climbed trees, made a rope swing, found a grass snake & an active badger sett plus we did some pond dipping & found water beetles, sticklebacks & newts. Those kind of memories stay with the kids forever π
I hate the thought of my son growing up on a diet of TV and computer games! We spend barely any time at home at the weekends… we always have adventures to seek!
the fresh air and a lot of activities
I hate being stuck in with the TV on all the time! Winter makes me go crazy! The garden is much more fun!
sun and fresh air
It stimulates mind and body.
We just love getting fresh air and getting close to nature π
