It may have taken a while to get here but now it’s certainly time for layering up. Despite having grown up in a hot country, cold weather style is one of the things I look forward to as Autumn and Winter approach.
Anyway, there is a story to this jumper. A few weeks ago I was having a Very Bad Day. Like, what-am-I-doing-with-my-life kind of bad. I even ended up throwing a mini hissy fit over not having any jumpers that were warm but not too warm. I know. What dignity.
Laurence kissed me goodbye and went off to a work meeting.
It turned out that his meeting was in a quirky little cafe near St Nicholas’ Market, smack in the middle of Bristol, called The Bird Cage. Along with coffee and cakes, they have a few racks carrying vintage clothes. He spotted this jumper and bought it to cheer me up.
I think he was surprised by how the gesture touched me. It told me that he’d listened to my ridiculous little meltdown over my wardrobe that morning and that he’d thought of me, even after he’d left the house. He’s far more into style than I am so it was a bit sacrificial of him to buy something for me rather than himself.
Also, we hardly ever buy each other anything. Neither of us are that fussed about gifts and so I think we’ve given each other a free pass on the gift thing. We didn’t even exchange anniversary gifts this year! This made the presentation of this jumper all the sweeter.
I just had to include this picture. Trust a small child to bring you back to earth. Every time.
He sounds do thoughtful and exactly what you need when you are having one of those days. Love the jumper

It really was exactly what I needed and not out of character for him to do something like this, actually.
Aww, that’s a lovely gesture from your husband 🙂 Love the last photo, so cute! I definitely agree with you, the little ones, always, always brings us back down to earth! x
She is the funniest person in my life!
That’s brilliant! I started reading the post thinking ooh what a fab jumper and ended it thinking what a fab partner! You’ve got it all Adele 🙂 Seriously, you look super and I hope it keeps you snuggly xx

I have to say, there are some days I feel how blessed I am and that was one of them.
I love that this jumper manages to capture Winter AND Christmas AND style ALL IN ONE. Or, as the Irish say, maybe it is the hanger that it is on ha ha!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that last pic where Talitha is looking upwards.
So thoughtful of your man to buy you this. In my 41 years on this planet I am yet to get a Winter Wonderland type of jumper but PROMISED myself that I would this year.
xx

This is your year, Liska!
oh this is what he got you! Good pick Laurence! I think surprise gifts means much more than birthday/xmas gifts. Neither of us ‘need’ anything at this point in our lives so they whole ‘what do you want for your birthday/xmas’ just seems like a waste on money. Two years ago I gave Tom a cook book on eggs that I’d won for his birthday present ha! Tom is really good at spotting things that will suit me and I think he enjoys being good at it as much as I enjoy getting them! Since having Wilf all I ask for for special occasions is a night of sleep 🙂
You look wonderful by the way, the hair tye is super sweet x

Thanks. I’ve been wearing hair ties more lately. Too lazy to keep cutting my hair so I might be letting it grow out. Glad to know we’re not alone in our giftlessness!
love surprise gifts like this… and what a great Jumper! I love it, and it really suits you x

He’s a good ‘un.
Awh how precious and what a sweet caring hubby. Bless him and your family. A good hubby is heaven sent. Super cute jumper too and that shows he knows your taste too/. Simply precious.
On another note, you seem so focused and spot on, I’d never have thought you get days like that. This week I found myself worry about how I’d look after myself when I get old, if I say at housewife, will I get a pension? Where will the finances come from for daily living. I don’t want to be a burden to my children. I don’t want them worrying about sending me money to live. Dunno, I got some research to do.
And as for you, looks like you are doing well, go easy on yourself.
Oh I definitely get days like that! Yes, sorting a pension is pretty important. I wouldn’t have got around to it if Laurence hadn’t hassled me about it but it’s given me such peace of mind. I do need to up the amount I pay into it, though.
I can remember you saying at the wedding he’d done that, so so lovely of him! You look great, I love the hair scarves x

Thank you! Think I’m going to have to get me some more of these hair ties!
What a thoughtful gift and what a great jumper. I’m going to have to check out the cafe too, it sounds great.
It really is worth a visit. Great smoothies too.
Oh what a wonderful gesture – I love this vintage jumper and it really suits you – perfect for autumn casual style!
